Research Interests

As a thoracic surgeon, I am interested in the use of advanced computer aided 3D imaging of the chest cavity and its organs, including the lungs, utilizing the "CAVE" at the Delaware Biotechnology Institute. I also am collaborating with biologists and genetics faculty at the University of Delaware to investigate DNA damage repair pathways and their role in augmenting cell death with chemotherapy.

Current Projects

  • 3D reconstruction of CT scans for virtual surgery training and education (project at DBI with Karl Steiner).
  • The use of oligonucleotides in treating esophageal and lung cancer cell lines (project at DBI with Eric Kmiec).
  • Commuter analysis of lung abnormalities on CT scans (project at UD with Chandra Kambhamettu).
  • Thoracic oncology summer clerkship at Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. Students learn to workup, diagnosis, treat and care for patients with thoracic malignancies while completing a clinical research project.
