Research Interests

As a thoracic surgeon, I am interested in the use of advanced computer aided 3D imaging of the chest cavity and its organs, including the lungs, utilizing the "CAVE" at the Delaware Biotechnology Institute. I also am collaborating with biologists and genetics faculty at the University of Delaware to investigate DNA damage repair pathways and their role in augmenting cell death with chemotherapy.

Current Projects

3D reconstruction of CT scans for virtual surgery training and education (project at DBI with Karl Steiner).
The use of oligonucleotides in treating esophageal and lung cancer cell lines (project at DBI with Eric Kmiec).
Commuter analysis of lung abnormalities on CT scans (project at UD with Chandra Kambhamettu).
Thoracic oncology summer clerkship at Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. Students learn to workup, diagnosis, treat and care for patients with thoracic malignancies while completing a clinical research project.
