What grades must I have to be able to apply?
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 and 3.3 in the sciences and no grade less than a C in prerequisite courses. All prerequisite science and math courses must be earned within 5 years of application to the program. Students must complete the specific prerequisite credits prior to matriculation.
Will TJU accept AP credit for prerequisite courses?
Yes, but they prefer that mathematics requirement be taken at the university.
Should I have some sort of professional experience before applying?
Being able to show that you have thought seriously about your career decisions is required. You can volunteer in a pharmacy and also do community service.
When should I apply to TJU?
UD students are encouraged to apply by mid-October of their junior year because this puts their application early in the review process. This is an advantage for seat availability, scholarships, etc. Mid-October is NOT a hard deadline. It is a suggestion. The regular admission application deadline posted on TJU's website is June 1st. However, for the advantages listed above, we reccomend that students apply no later than Fall of their junior year.
When should I apply through PHARMCAS?
The service opens during the first week of June. After applying the application will take 3-4 weeks to reach TJU. After receiving the application TJU will send out a supplemental application.
Do I have to wait to apply until I've completed all prerequisite courses?
No.
What is the institutional code for TJU when logged on to PHARMCAS?
It is 104. In addition, you must also apply to at least one other school.
Who should I get to write a letter of recommendation and where should the letters be sent?
Letters should be submitted to PHARMCAS. Choose carefully. The individual writing a letter should be able to discuss your personal qualifications to become a pharmacist. Choosing a faculty member who simply states the grade you earned in a class is not helpful. TJU does not accept letters from politicians, friends, co-workers or the clergy.
When must the supplemental application be submitted?
You should submit the secondary application as soon as you can. The deadline for submitting these applications is in mid-March. Decisions on admission are made by TJU during following fall.
When will TJU start reviewing applications?
TJU reviews applications once all of the required materials are submitted.
What do I do if I receive an offer of acceptance from TJU?
Please email the admission offer to Prof. J. Nauen (jnauen@udel.edu). Students will initiate a change of major through UDSIS to the B.S. with a Concentration in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The courses taken in the first year (and if necessary, in the second year at Jefferson) will count for your fourth year at UD.
If I exceed all the academic standards and do well on the PCAT, am I guaranteed admission to the TJU Pharm D program?
Earning the minimum grades does not guarantee admission. Successful applicants usually have grades scores higher than the minimums. In addition students must perform well on an interview, which is administered by faculty on the TJU’s admission committee.
How can I satisfy the Human Anatomy and Physiology prerequisite?
Take KAAP309 and KAAP310. Alternatively, you can take a two semester course with labs at a community college and transfer the credit to UD (the minimum grade of C for all TJU prerequisite courses still applies).
