<p>This course focuses on the molecular and cellular basis of life. The goal is to provide students with scientific thinking skills regardless of their chosen discipline. Students develop an appreciation of the relationship between cellular structure and function; the significance of signal transduction pathways, energy acquisition and transformation; cell division including Mendelian genetics and the flow of genetic information from DNA to RNA to proteins. </p>
<p>The laboratory course emphasizes application of the scientific method, hypothesis based experimentation, data analysis and scientific writing in addition to fundamental laboratory techniques.</p> | <p>My research training and interests are in Cancer research.  I investigated cell signaling pathways and the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular transformation and metastasis. Specifically, I studied the contributions of c-myc onco-protein to the resistance of melanoma cells to transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) tumor suppression. Currently, I am adopting innovative scientific teaching methods including active learning and problem based learning strategies to undergraduate biology instruction.<br></p> | | | <p>
